Johannesburg - South Africa's maize stocks fell 5.6 percent in September from a month earlier as it stepped up exports to neighbouring countries, the SA Grain Information Service said yesterday.

At the end of September, South Africa had 7.9 million tons of maize compared with 8.37 million tons at the end of August.

Of this, 5.56 million tons was white maize and 2.34 million tons was yellow maize. Stocks a year earlier were 7.03 million tons.


At the end of September, South Africa had 32 900 tons of sunflower seeds, compared with 379 300 tons at the end of August and 310 800 tons in September last year.

Soyabean stocks were at 142 300 tons compared with 157 900 tons at the end of August and 83 500 tons in September 2003.
