Reserve Bank asked to help with Bankserv
November 9, 2009
Shoprite was lobbying the Reserve Bank to help resolve the intermittent system failures at Bankserv, the country's national electronic payment system, the retailer said on Friday.
Bankserv is an automated clearing house owned by the banks that provides interbank electronic transaction switching and settlement services.
"All PIN-based electronic transactions, including ATM transactions, were again affected by Bankserv system failures this past week, which reached a peak on Tuesday," Shoprite said.
This resulted in payments for goods being debited against consumers' accounts while vendors received no value, leaving many consumers out of pocket and without their purchases. - Sapa
