November 9, 2009

Barloworld Power had been awarded a contract by Namibia's electricity parastatal, NamPower, to build a power station at Walvis Bay, NamPower said on Saturday.

The N$250 million (R250m) station is designed to produce 21.5 megawatts of power using diesel generator sets. The station is expected to be commissioned in December 2010.

Namibia's coastal Erongo region is experiencing unprecedented economic growth as a result of uranium mining and exploration, which has led to a surge in demand for power. - Bloomberg
