Huge DaimlerChrysler recall in Japan
June 30, 2004

Tokyo - DaimlerChrysler would recall more than a quarter of Mercedes-Benz cars sold in Japan, the US-German vehicle giant said yesterday.

The recall affects 121 306 vehicles imported between April 1997 and June this year.

DaimlerChrysler, which controls scandal-embroiled local car maker Mitsubishi Motors, said the move was part of a worldwide recall of 839 000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles with braking defects.

It was not clear how much the recall would cost, said DaimlerChrysler Japan spokesperson Tsuyoshi Tanaka.
