Grinaker-LTA, a subsidiary of listed construction and engineering group Aveng, has been awarded a R394 million contract to build a new hospital in Mitchells Plain. The hospital is to be built on a site adjacent to the Lentegeur Hospital and will offer 230 beds in a four-level building. It is due for completion in October 2012. Mark Belman, the business development director at Grinaker-LTA Building Cape, said yesterday that the employment of local labour and the purchase of materials and equipment from businesses and residents within the Mitchells Plain and Phillippi areas was one of the most significant aspects of the project, which formed part of the Department of Public Works' expanded public works programme. Belman said its contract featured stringent requirements in terms of the employment of historically disadvantaged service providers and women-owned enterprises.
