Eskom appoints 3 outsiders to senior posts  Comments
November 18, 2009

Electricity parastatal Eskom announced three senior appointments on Wednesday.

Paul O'Flaherty was appointed as finance director from January 1; Dan Marokane as managing director of primary energy from January 12; and Bhabhalazi Bulunga as managing director of human resources from February 1, Eskom said in a statement.

O'Flaherty is currently the chief financial officer of Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, which he joined in July 2007.

Before that, O'Flaherty spent five years at the Johannesburg-based construction company Group 5 after 14 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Marokane has been with PetroSA for eleven years. He was appointed to his current position as vice-president in the operations division of PetroSA in March 2007.

Eskom said he was a director of PetroSA Nigeria, PetroSA Europe and Brass Exploration, Nigeria.

He was responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Gas-to-Liquids Refinery (GTL&R) in Mosselbay and the three exploration and production offshore units -- the F-A gas platform and the Orca and Glas Dowr oil production vessels.

Eskom said Bulunga was currently general manager of human resources at the South African Airways (SAA), which he joined in March 2007 after a stint at BHPBilliton Ltd.

Eskom's board and executive committee extended a warm welcome to the new appointments.

They were joining the company's leadership team "at an opportune time as we execute the company's capacity expansion plans to address the country's electricity supply needs for the future," it said.

Eskom's board, however, is still without a chairman following the resignation of Bobby Godsell.

It is also without a chief executive officer following the controversial departure of Jacob Maroga. - Sapa

I can not undersatand why 'we' use coal as the rest of the world says & dictates use wind & other means as it is safer for the greenhouse effect.... seems as if ESKOM has no ears !! or it seems is too simple minded... think back .. TV should have been digital but now how many years later do they realize the ?? they made.. again ... going against the advice that is offered free ... even when Switzerland offer 30 free wind turbines ... they still say NO or so it seems...!!

Phumie - that may be tha case but at what cost to the individual and economy as a whole. How could Eskom have been without a FD for 12 months and furthermore who has been calculating the price increases without FD review & authorisation? Lets hope that they arent in it for their bonuses as weve already been exposed to these and saw where it got us.
