Branson to invest $3bn in renewable energy
September 22, 2006
British business mogul Richard Branson said yesterday that he would invest about $3 billion (R23 billion) to combat global warming over the next decade.
Branson, the billionaire behind the multiplatform Virgin brand, said the money would come from the profits generated by his transport and airline sectors.
It would be invested in programmes to find renewable, sustainable energy sources to wean the world off oil and coal.
Branson's announcement in Manhattan came on the second day of the Clinton Global Initiative, a conference of business, political and non-profit leaders hosted by former US president Bill Clinton.
