Madoff auction thumps estimates  Comments
November 16, 2009

Fallen financier Bernard Madoff and his wife's belongings fetched as much as 20 times their estimated value at auction. Alan Richardson, a Florida dealer, almost got Madoff's blue satin New York Mets baseball jacket, valued at up to $720 (R5 370). The bidder lost - just shy of the $14 500 final price at Saturday's auction. Two pairs of Ruth Madoff's diamond earrings sold for $70 000 each, against a presale estimate of only $9 800 and $21 400 a pair. - Sapa-AP
