The European Central Bank (ECB) left its main interest rate unchanged at a record low 1 percent yesterday amid signs that the 16-nation euro zone is slowly emerging from recession. The Bank of England (BOE) also left its main rate at 0.5 percent, but said it would pour another £25 billion (R319bn) into the economy to get the UK out of recession. The BOE's move came after last week's surprise news that the UK remained in recession during the third quarter, even as the US returned to growth. Most economists expect the euro zone to show growth when third-quarter figures come out next week. - Sapa-AP
