Korean cabbies carry on with TV  Comments
November 4, 2009

A South Korean court has rejected an attempt to prosecute Seoul taxi drivers for one of their scariest habits: watching television while driving.

A Seoul court on Sunday ordered a district office in the capital to cancel a fine of 600 000 won (R4 040) imposed on a cabbie. Seoul last year passed an ordinance banning the use of digital broadcasting devices while driving. But the court ruled that the ordinance was illegal because it was based on a law that was later superseded. A minority of taxi drivers in the capital convert dashboard global positioning system screens so they can receive television programmes.
