Profile: John Wallington new Firestone Energy chief executive

John Wallington, the newly appointed managing director at Firestone Energy is an experienced engineer and holds a Bsc Mining Engineering degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.

He has been a chief executive of the coal division of Anglo American since January 2005 until May last year.

He joined the division in 1981 as a mining graduate at its Arnot Colliery mine.


Wallington is credited with the development and implementation of strategy at Anglo Coal and he played a major role in the completion of its black economic empowerment transaction in 2007.

He had been instrumental in building and maintaining key regulator and customer relations internationally - Lucky Biyase
