Gucci targets credit card enablers
August 11, 2009
Gucci America sued several credit card processing firms for trademark infringement last week on grounds those companies facilitated the sale of counterfeit Gucci bags on the internet.
By processing deals on counterfeits, Gucci said, the firms "not only supply the necessary marketplace for such transactions, they are full partners in those counterfeiting activities". The suit charged Frontline Processing, Woodforest National Bank and Durango Merchant Services and other unnamed companies.
Gucci said the case stemmed from another anti-counterfeit case last year in which the owner of the website TheBagAddiction.com, and others, were ordered to pay Gucci $5.2 million (R42m). - Reuters
