Msimango appointed as acting MD of Telkom
April 1, 2009
Telkom's new organisational structure became operational on Wednesday with the three major business units of the Telkom Group coming in to being, namely, Telkom SA, Telkom International and Telkom Data Centre Operations.
Following last Thursday's announcement that Nombulelo "Pinky" Moholi has been appointed as MD of the Telkom SA business unit from May 2009, Casper Kondo Chihaka, Telkom's acting Chief of Operations, will act as Managing Director of Telkom SA until Moholi assumes her position at the Group.
In addition, with effect from 1 April 2009, Thami Msimango, Telkom's current Chief of Global Operations and Subsidiaries, has been appointed as acting Managing Director of the Telkom International Business Unit as well as CEO of Multi-links. Earlier this year, Telkom acquired a 100% stake in Multi-Links, after acquiring 75% of the Nigerian private telecommunications operator in May 2007.
"However, this does not mean that all the necessary work has been done to ensure that every aspect of the new structure is fully operational and in place," said Telkom Group CEO, Reuben September.
He added: "Refocusing the Telkom Group represents a positive, purposeful change towards a more accountable and competitive company. This change is a necessary part of Telkom's strategy to maintain and grow its market share in South Africa, while building a strong footprint on the African continent."
He explained that Telkom's new organisational structure was designed to support the Group's new strategic focus and vision. "A heightened customer focus is core to our strategy going forward while growth in the area of mobile capability and shareholder value creation are other key focal areas," stated September.
He added that appointments in relation to Telkom Data Centre Operations "will be made in due course".
